On June 5, 2024, the "Innovation Base of Earthquake Engineering Comprehensive Simulation" 23th "International Classroom" was successfully held. At the invitation of Assistant professor Ying Xu, School of Civil Engineering, Tianjin University, Professor Alireza Behnejad from University of Surrey, UK, presented a special course entitled "Spatial Structures in the 21st Century" at Tencent meeting room.
Assistant professor Ying Xu from the School of Civil Engineering, Tianjin University, hosted the report and introduced Prof. Alireza Behnejad. During the course, Professor Alireza Behnejad focused on efficient applications of spatial structures in large-span construction. He not only provided various examples from his own industrial experience and outstanding projects worldwide but also shared innovative teaching ideas and resources developed at the Spatial Structures Research Centre of the University of Surrey. After the course, Professor Alireza Behnejad from University of Surrey, UK, Assistant professor Ying Xu from Tianjin University and other teachers and students held a heated discussion on relevant issues and took a group photo.

According to statistics, the lecture attracted 50 teachers and students from Tianjin University and other universities, and the effect of the course was remarkable. Teachers and students responded enthusiastically to the course and looked forward to bringing more wonderful course to the broad masses of teachers and students.

Introduction to Professor Alireza Behnejad:
Dr Alireza Behnejad is an Associate Professor at the School of Sustainability, Civil and Environmental Engineering of the University of Surrey, UK. He achieved his first master’s degree in architectural engineering in2001, followed by a second MSc in Structural Engineering and a PhD in Geometry of Spatial Structures, along with a Graduate Certificate in Learning and Teaching from the University of Surrey. Alireza is the Director of the Spatial Structures Research Centre of the University established by Prof Z SMakowski in 1963. He has also had thirteen years of experience as an Architect and Director of a company in the field of design and construction of prefabricated light weight structures, prior to joining the Centre. Alireza received the Vice-Chancellor's Award for Teacher of the Year in 2021 due to making a significant contribution to enhancing students’ learning experience and the quality of their learning. He also received the Excellence in Structural Engineering Award 2023 from the Institution of Structural Engineers (IStructE)and was shortlisted for the Quanser Global Sustainability Award 2023. He is an Editor in Chief of the International Journal of Space Structures, and the Founding Editor of Spatial Structures; Movers and Shakers e-magazine. Alirezais also a member of the Executive Council of the International Association for Shell and Spatial Structures (IASS) and the founding chair of the working group on Teaching of Shell and Spatial Structures (IASS-WG20). He was also appointed as a Visiting Professor at the University of Sao Paulo, Brazil in 2023.
